FAMILY HISTORY INSTITUTE
The purpose of the day is to provide
information of interest to genealogists,
historians, authors, and researchers. William A.
Veselik is the Archivist for the F.B. Kegley
Library at Wytheville Community College (WCC)
and regional representative of Family Search.
Daniel B. Thorp is an associate professor of
history at Virginia Tech. He is the author of
nearly two dozen articles and three books on a
range of topics in eighteenth and nineteenth-
century American history. Bennett Cassell is
Retired Professor of Dairy Science, VA Tech.
Patricia Austin is President of the Board of the
Wytheville Training Center and African-
American Museum. Ricky Cox is a retired
professor of American literature and
Appalachian Studies at Radford

REGISTRATION:
The full fee for the Institute includes
registration, participants’ list, handouts, snack
breaks and banquet. You will have a choice of
many local restaurants for breakfast and lunch
on your own. Fee options are listed on the
registration form. There is an additional $10 fee
for registrations after March 25th. You may mail
in the registration form or register on-line at
www.wcgha.org.
The Institute will print a list of participants
(with addresses and E-mails) with the surnames
(limit three) they are researching in Southwest
Virginia. Anyone wishing to meet the person
mentioned will have an opportunity at the
conference.
Note: If you would like to visit the WCGHA
research library, we recommend you plan on
extending your stay to include Friday (hours 10-
4), Sunday (special hours 8-2) or Monday (10-4).

LOCATION:
The Institute and the banquet will be held at
Wytheville Meeting Center, located at 333
Community Boulevard, Wytheville, VA.
Directions to Wytheville Meeting Center: From I-
81 take exit 73, stay on Main St. and turn right
into the entrance to Wytheville Community
College. Drive to the top of the hill to the circle
drive and the Meeting Center will be on your
left. From I-77 South (Bluefield): Take Exit 41
then Peppers Ferry Road to Community
Boulevard, left turn in front of Comfort Suites
